Day 9
A quick look round the mosque showed it to be a delightful piece of architecture, but sadly the morning light was a little bland. A clean exit from Cordoba compared to our torturous entry down the alleys. Disappointingly easy riding characterised by fairly featureless A-roads which although marked as scenic weren't particularly, although we did cover the miles quickly...until we arrived in Madrid. Damian turned off too early onto a Peaj (toll motorway) and the ensuing madness cost us over 90 minutes in hot conditions sat astride even hotter motorcycles. Madrid traffic made London appear like an uncongested utopia, although most of it was fairly friendly. Only one Peugeot was wantonly rubbed by Damian's luggage - but it was his own choice not to let us through. The Formule 1 hotel was a stark contrast to the hotel overlooked by the mosque in Cordoba. The evening meal in the Ibis across the road was a mixture of strangely bad and yet very hospitable service, culminating in after-dinner schnapps of unknown variety on the house.
