2014 has seen us go from Coventry to White Bear Lake, from and many more changes besides. Some photos from the year.
1
Shiny New Stairs at 34 UEGL. One of the few ideas that wasn't Linda's - the poor chap needed ages to fit them.
2
Shiny New Bathroom at 34 UEGL. Masterminded by Linda, brilliantly done and adding far more value to the house than it cost.
3
A birthday gift from Linda. Damian took to the sky in a Cessna in March.
4
Louise learns to solder at Science Week in Edinburgh. Damian solders vicariously.
5
Jo learns to program a tartan pattern at Science Week in Edinburgh.
6
Lou lives in a bubble of her own making at Science Week in Edinburgh.
7
Jo makes worlds within worlds at the Science Week in Edinburgh.
8
Damian, Jo and Louise heading up Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh.
9
It's too late to be having second thoughts. Note the dining room chair on top of the heap.
10
After the world's most amazing serial upgrade experience and before we go for a four-hour wait at the US embassy in Grosvenor Square.
11
Linda and Margaret at the Ship in Tiptree. As you can see, Margaret is very sad that Linda is leaving.
12
Landed!
13
A walk across the Stone Arch Bridge connecting Minneapolis and St Paul across the Mississippi.
14
That same Stone Arch Bridge with a tired Damian sitting under it.
15
Now That's What I Call Shopping. The Mall of America is the most something or other. But it is a lot.
16
In-car grab of the metropolitan skyline. Neither of us really know if it's Minneapolis or St Paul.
17
A dark squirrel. We've seen red ones, too!
18
A more typical squirrel, looking cheeky like they always do.
19
Sad house undergoing open heart surgery. Dark yuck is wood rot. House is made entirely of wood, so this much rot is A Bad Thing.
20
Plywood sheathing has pretty much all fallen away when the outer rendering was removed, revealing the pink insulation. Immediately behind the pink insulation is the interior plasterboard, known as "sheetrock" over here.
21
Inaugral bofire of the stuff left behind by the outgoing owners. We now know we should have had a licence. Or "license" as they say here.
22
On the St Croix river at Taylors Falls. Paddle steamers were favoured for river travel because of their shallow draft.
23
With Jo and Louise on the paddle steamer during their first visit.
24
Linda finds comfort at Teddy Bear Park in Stillwater.
25
Front of the house and turning circle on a highly typical cloudless summer's day.
26
Turning circle and drive. This is the front garden.
27
From somewhere near the pond looking down over the large wooded area behind the house. Screened porch keeps insects at bay during their heyday. Woods not actually entered until much later than this picture taken.
28
Margaret came to visit and loved the garden. As you can see, the weather was terrible.
29
Ornamental pond and waterfall came complete with 10 Koi of varying shapes and sizes. Pond is solid ice in the winter, Koi come inside.
30
A much happier house with new cladding and siding, not to mention several new windows and new patio doors. The deck has since had new paint, too.
31
Linda liked nothing better than organising Damian's tools onto these racks. To be fair, Damian has been wanting to do it since 1999.
32
Three stall garage has room to cycle around the Jaguar parked in the middle if the Escape isn't present. Shiny new floor was Linda's idea, pictures on the wall at her instigation too. Proper man-cave complete with beer fridge.
33
Linda and Margaret at the North Shore of Lake Superior on Thomsonite Beach.
34
Gorgeous pink sunset photographed by Linda over Lake Superior.
35
Roof terrace bar in Grand Marais, again over Lake Superior.
36
Trading post overlooks the harbour, again in Grand Marais. Of course, they spell it "harbor" here. Weather still terrible.
37
Gooseberry falls, a popular rest stop on the way back from Lake Superioir. Even more lush in real life than in this shot.
38
Damian and goatee at Lucas' 4th birthday party.
39
Damian discusses pasta accompaniments with the main dish.
40
Linda favours orange sauce with hers. Duck slightly alarmed.
41
Autumn arrived with ridiculously vivid colours. Or "Fall" arrived with "awesome colors".
42
1986 VFR750 contemplates hibernation over the coming winter.
43
Sunset skies are ever beautiful. This shot looking down the left half of the front garden, neighbouring house just visible. Neighbours are British ex-pats, too.
44
Dawn on a workday morning, from the dining room overlooking the woods in the back garden.
45
First snow started as a gentle dusting and quietly built to about 6 inches or so.
46
Newly cleared path into the back garden woods is emphasised by the snow.
47
Bambi! An immature deer is a frequent visitor. We're surprised to see him/her on their own but they appear self-sufficient.
48
First go on the newly collected (thanks, Dave!) Indy 550 LXT. Linda hates it, as you can see.
49
So, to recap: a free snowmobile and a garden big enough to ride it in. Damian attempts to get some speed up.
50
Another day, another dawn.
51
Looking southeast towards the Hugo water tower. The spectacular dawn skies are arriving just as I'm having a coffee and gathering myself to think about work.
52
Wild turkeys are frequent visitors in the front garden.
53
Bambi's back! Another shot of the same deer as he wanders into the woods cleared by Nick on his last visit. Damian and Linda just drank beer and watched him.
